Security Advisory: AGO Cybersecurity Incident
INTRODUCTION
The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) reported a cybersecurity incident between September 9 and 18, resulting in unauthorized access to some customer information. Most customer data and credit card information were not impacted.
The gallery is notifying affected individuals as advised by legal counsel and security specialists. AGO is urging members to remain vigilant against phishing and identity theft, and to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity. The gallery is also enhancing its cybersecurity measures, with new authorization measures in place. AGO has also noted that many cultural institutions in Canada have faced similar threats, emphasizing the need for prompt action.
HOW TO PROCEED IF YOU ARE A CURRENT CUSTOMER
- Monitor accounts daily to see if any suspicious activity occurs and contact the AGO or your bank directly.
- Beware of phishing attempts and any type of email fraud that may ask for authentication to your AGO account.
- Changing passwords that may be like the ones that got leaked within this breach.
PREVENTION
- AGO will communicate through their priority@ago.ca email or 416-979-6608 phone number. Do not respond to anyone else claiming to be a representative of AGO.
- AGO accounts can use an authenticator app or MFA (multi-factor authentication).
- Be vigilant of any calls made from a bank representative out of the blue, as attackers know about cyber incidents that occur daily and may leverage that an opportunity to phish for more sensitive information.
